Whether we realize it or not, getting ready for bed is a universal ritual we all do each and every night. It is important to allow ourselves time to calm down, unwind, and let go of the many thoughts and stresses we carry throughout our day. Many people watch TV or scroll their phones but, being the skin experts we are here at Allure Az, we think your skincare should be incorporated to your bedtime routine instead! That’s not only because we’re so passionate about skincare but also because it’s just better for everyone to limit blue lights at night for better sleep.
When people think of their nighttime skincare routine, often they think of it as something you do right before bed. However, if you are anything like me, waiting right before bed to go through your entire skincare routine may cause you to lose motivation and justify crawling into bed with a full face of makeup on. One of the best ways to prevent this is by completing your skincare routine earlier in the night to ensure it gets done. There is no better feeling than relaxing with a fresh, glowing face and letting your skincare soak in for the rest of the night, giving you those beautiful results you’re looking for. We recommend completing your skincare routine before you sit down for dinner.
What we put inside our bodies makes a huge difference on how our skin appears outwardly. If the time allows, ritualize the act of cooking for yourself. Cooking a healthy, balanced meal will pay off mentally and physically. Nourishing yourself is like giving yourself a big hug and saying thank you for getting through another day and supplying your body with nutrients. However, treating yourself to takeout can be just as healing and fun for the whole family, depending on what kind of day you’re having.
Once you’re ready to wind down, turn the screens off for the night. Allowing yourself at least one hour without your phone or your TV before bed can help you fall asleep quicker and give you a clearer mind for the next day. Replacing screens with a mindful activity can calm the mind and give us a moment of peace before entering the dream realm.
Try meditation, simple stretching with some deep breathing, journaling, writing a list of what you are grateful for, praying, or reading your favorite book. It is so important to allow ourselves to simply exist without pressures from our outside world and thoughts that can weigh so heavily on us at times. Even if it is just for a few moments, allow yourself to go to bed with a clear mind so you can truly have a fresh start the next day.
We understand that life gets in the way of what our perfect and ideal routine might look like but showing up as you are for yourself is all anyone can ever ask. Incorporating some of these ideas into your routine even a couple nights a week can make the biggest difference to our physical and mental health.
